Spain Non-Lucrative Visa Lawyers

The premier residency route for retirees managed by expert Spain Non-Lucrative Visa Lawyers. We navigate the Consulate bureaucracy so you don’t have to.

Is the Non-Lucrative Visa right for you?

This visa is designed strictly for those who do not need to work in Spain. It is the gold standard for retirement and sabbaticals.

Retirees & Rentiers

Perfect for individuals who have sufficient passive income (pensions, dividends, investments, or savings) and simply want to enjoy life in Spain.

No Work Allowed

Strictly forbidden. You cannot work for a Spanish company, nor can you work remotely for foreign clients. If you need to work, apply for the Digital Nomad Visa.

Path to Citizenship

The NLV counts fully towards Permanent Residency (after 5 years) and Spanish Citizenship (after 10 years). It allows free travel within the Schengen Area.

Financial Requirements for the NLV (2026)

Consulates require proof of funds based on the IPREM index. You must demonstrate availability of funds for 1 year.

Applicant Type Calculation Rule (IPREM) Required Monthly Income
Main Applicant
400% of IPREM
~ €2,400 / month
+ Spouse / Partner
+100% of IPREM
+ €600 / month
+ Per Child
+100% of IPREM
+ €600 / month

* Calculations based on 2024 IPREM (€600/mo). Consulates may require savings (lump sum) instead of monthly income.

The Consular Application Process

Unlike other visas, the NLV must be applied for in your home country. We manage the entire timeline.

1

Strategy & Jurisdiction

We identify your Consulate (e.g., LA vs Miami vs London) and secure the difficult appointment slot.

2

Legalization & Translation

We manage the Hague Apostille for background checks and coordinate Sworn Translations.

3

Consulate Interview

We prepare your physical file to be "decision-ready". You attend the interview to submit it.

Visa & TIE Card

Once approved (1-3 months), you get the visa in your passport. We then help you get the TIE card in Spain.

Questions from our NLV clients

Clarifying common doubts about health insurance, taxes, and renewals from our Lawyers.

Do I need Private Health Insurance?

Yes. You must have a private health insurance policy with full coverage in Spain, no co-payments, and no waiting periods. Travel insurance is not accepted. We review your policy before you sign.

Do I have to pay taxes on my foreign pension?

Generally, yes. If you live in Spain >183 days, you become a tax resident. However, Double Taxation Treaties (UK/USA/Canada) usually prevent you from paying tax twice. Pensions are often taxed in Spain progressively.

How does renewal work?

The initial visa is for 1 year. You renew it for 2 years (showing 2x the funds), and then another 2 years. After 5 years, you gain Permanent Residency and the financial requirement drops significantly.

Can I manage my own investments?

Yes. You cannot "work" (trade time for money), but you are allowed to manage your own portfolio and receive dividends or rent, as long as it doesn't involve active day-to-day management of a business in Spain.
